My passion for teaching to love learning drives my instruction every day. I have been recognized as the 2018 New Mexico Teacher of the Year. I strive to learn from every opportunity I have and every person I meet. I know my practice is not perfect, but I strive every day to work towards making my classroom an inclusive space that allows learning to flourish. My classroom is a space where every single student can show up whole regardless of their intersectionalities. It is also a place where I show up whole every day: I am an immigrant queer woman of color, former DACA recipient, proud of my roots and where I am headed.
I am excited to uplift the voices of New Mexico educators and speak out on the greatness in every single classroom in our state! Teachers are professionals whose voices matter in policy. Education is a great career. We must represent our diverse students in New Mexico - especially through our personal identities.
I am proud to be part of the national advocacy teacher group Teachers Against Child Detention that demands the release of immigrant children in prison systems in the United States. We also are advocating for our Albuquerque community through our local chapter of TACD (abqtacd.weebly.com).
Innocent immigrant children are being detained by the U.S. Government.
We demand the immediate release of our children to their families. All children deserve a quality education, all children deserve to reach their endless potential, all children deserve to be free.
